Atune + Byrd Exhibition Launch
04 April 2016 by Sancho Murphy
United by the potential of cans and walls, Atune + Byrd have been pushing against the tropes of 'OGNewYork' style graffiti together since the mid 90's.
Having always been motivated to evolve his style - Atune has now completely moved away from letters. Rather, focusing on painting expressive line-work, which brings movement and a dark atmospheric depth and feel to his work.
Byrd, drawn to more abstract and post graffiti styles, “makes stuff, both flat and lumpy”, drawing and painting at all scales, looking at how the wall sits in the broader space and preparing his anthropomorphic characters + textural colour burst compositions to advantage this.
Now catch some of their studio work in a collaborative exhibition at Lobrow Gallery + Bar, featuring large scale murals direct onto wall, stencils, canvases, framed works, and possibly a short street art tour of Civic / Braddon as part of the You Are Here Festival 2016.
